The Role of the Tangenziale di Napoli Today
With approximately 21 kilometers of roadway and an additional 22 kilometers across 14 interchanges, the Naples Ring Road provides a crucial link between the eastern and western areas of Naples, bypassing city traffic. It remains the only high-speed road infrastructure within the city, accommodating nearly 250,000 vehicles per day.
Like other toll roads that run through major urban centers—including those in Genoa, Turin, Milan, Bologna, and Florence—the Naples Ring Road is classified as a highway. However, its construction and maintenance present unique challenges due to the complex geomorphology of the surrounding territory, making it unlike any of the other comparable urban toll roads.
A Seamless Connection Across Naples
LA Tangenziale di Napoli integrates seamlessly with the urban and suburban landscape through 14 strategically located interchanges, each identified by a progressive numbering system. These interchanges facilitate:
- Efficient traffic distribution within the city, with exits at: Capodichino (1), Secondigliano (2), Doganella (3), Corso Malta (4), Capodimonte (5), Arenella (6), Zona Ospedaliera (7), Camaldoli (8), Vomero (9), and Fuorigrotta (10).
- Direct connections to the western areas via the interchanges at: Agnano (11), Via Campana (12), Cuma (13), and Pozzuoli (14).
- Major highway and road network access, including: SS 162 DIR, Connections to the A1, A3, and A16 motorways, The port area,S 7 quater – Domitiana.
Through its extensive infrastructure and strategic connections, the Tangenziale di Napoli continues to be a vital transport link, enhancing mobility and connectivity across the metropolitan area.
