Toll Calculation Method and Tariff Increases
The highway toll is the amount that users must pay for using the infrastructure.
Toll revenues are allocated to:
- Recover past and future investments,
- Support modernization, innovation, management, and maintenance costs of the network.
Fixed Toll System (“Semi-Closed”)
Unlike other concessioned highway sections, Tangenziale di Napoli operates under a fixed toll system, known as “semi-closed”, where users pay the toll at the exit toll booth.
- The applied tariff is based on the number of vehicle axles.
- The toll includes an additional ANAS fee, as per Law 102/2009.
- VAT (22%) is applied.
- The total amount is rounded up or down to the nearest €0.05, a process that occurs automatically without any discretionary adjustment by Tangenziale di Napoli S.p.A.
Annual Toll Increases
The annual unit tariff increase is determined by a mathematical formula established by the Transport Regulation Authority.
- The application of the updated tariff is formalized through an interministerial decreesigned by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and the Minister of Economy, following the Authority’s review.
- Due to rounding to the nearest €0.10, the actual toll increase may be higher, lower, or even zero compared to the calculated annual unit tariff increase.
- In some cases, the toll may remain unchanged for several years, with the accumulated annual increase applied in a subsequent year.
